Animal rescue at Katrina

The following link is to a power point presentation from a trip south to help with animals recovered from the Katrina hurricane, in Gonzales LA at the Lamar-Dixon Shelter. We could not have gone to help with out the support and assistance of family, friends , and our fellow workers at Lucky Stars Kennels. All of the staff and several friends pitched in and covered work while we were gone. Additionally taking a week at a time to help requires an awful lot of understanding from my training clients who were very accommodating with adjusting their schedules to fit our travel. We did go and were able to provide some much needed assistance, no “glamour” jobs for us just hard work wherever we were needed. Again thanks to all those who made it possible.

Katrina

We just returned from helping the animals at the Katrina disaster.
We worked in the Gonzoles site where rescued pets were brought for veterinary care, decontamination, food, water, and shelter. There were literally thousands of animals when we left. At that time they were still asking for assistance caring for the animals. Work was already started reuniting animals with family and shipping other animals into foster environments.
If you want to donate time or money to assisting the animals contact the Humane Society or the SPCA as they seemed to be the two organizations in charge. If you want to donate funds to assist, stick to 503c organizations and send it with a letter specifying how you expect the organization to use your money so it does not just end up in the general fund.
