Duke is my all time favorite cocker spaniel. He is a cocker rescue dog that has been fostering at Lucky Stars for many many months. He is deaf and has a little head tilt. When he first came into the kennel he was very bony, now he is a little on the plump side. Duke is quite the talker he will climb into your lap and growl and growl. He would be a great dog for a patient person that just wants a companion to spend time with. FMI wwwadoptacocker.org

Tess showing her partner/mom the “article” she found at snifferdog class. Tess indicates by lying down at the article. Admittedly she thinks we should hide kitties out there for her to find rather than the Easter Egg hunt we had. But she is doing a great job and is well on her way to snifferdog level I! The next class starts Wednesday May 19, in Hampstead MD to register call 410 236 2788
Aron searches an actual search in Western MD
arononsearchs
Aron working. She just came home from the hospital today she had a condition called pyometra an infection her uterus. It is a life threatening condition that can be prevented by spaying. Aron did not have a feaver but had been a “litle off” for a couple of weeks, I saw some discharge and took her to the Vet. Unfortunately we were hoping to breed Aron again if I could find a nice male. Both of her pups and her brothers and sisters have been fixed so she is the end of our line of working rottweilers. Aron’s line has a tradition of working and community service. Her mother Xena was V rated, a mantrailing dog, and one of the original lost pet detection dogs in the country. Her brother is a mobility assistance dog in NYC. Her sisters range from therapy dogs to search dogs from Maryland to Colorado. Both of her daughters are working SAR dogs in MD & California. One of her sisters was “v” rated another is titled in Schtzhund. Generally the working dogs in a line are the males however a good working rottweiler bitch is a tough dog to beat.
maggieparty
The spring has been a busy season at the dog day care. Maggie turned three she brought all the party fixings for both dog and human friends! Meg also turned three this spring, it is hard to see but she is teaching Lilly not to beg. Crossing her arms and ignoring the pup until she sits then Meg will give her petting and or a cookie treat. The following photos are more of some the dogs playing at the DDC.

Bubba and Buck play! WWWF look out these boys are quite the team. Bubba is fostering at the kennel he has been there since the Katrina dogs first came north. At first we were hoping to locate his owner, now we are hoping to find this great little guy a home.
Life enrichment activities are important for long term foster dogs, sometimes we get so bogged down in their physical care that rescue folks may forget the mental stimulation so necessary for these dogs. Pet dogs also need an outlet for natural behaviors, social, hunting/problem solving and physical exercise, providing life-enriching activities can go a long way toward preventing many problem behaviors in our pets.
fifiplays
Developing Fifi’s play drive into a reward system that we can use to teach her obedience and to reward search dog skills. I introduced her to cadaver training aids she is quite excited about the whole working idea. Fifi needs a home she is a Katrina dog I have been fostering. At first we were hoping to locate her owner, now we will be happy to find her a great home.
billplays
Bill came to the day care he is a foster with Tails of Hope He is a wonderful American Bull Dog that needs a special home. Both of his knees have been fixed. He tried to keep up with Fifi but in short order she ran him into the ground then spent the rest of the day trying to figure out how to get him up and moving again. Linda from ToH suggested we offer them as a two for one special they really do look good together and their personalities complement she has enough energy for two dogs and Bill is a little less bouncy.
