CONSIDERATIONS WHEN HIRING A LOST PET DETECTION DOG
When you post your lost pet advertisement to Craig’s list, Pet Finders or many other lists you will be contacted by a number of people trying to give you advice and sell you their services.
It is difficult to know who is sincere in there offer to help and who is selling you their service, who knows what they are talking about and who is an armchair expert. It does not take a lot of effort to put together a very professional looking package.
If anyone initiates contact with you, it would be prudent to be suspicious of their motives and skill. If it sounds too good to be true than it probably is.
When I started using my certified dogs to help people locate their lost pets there were only a handful of people using trained dogs in the country. Even though I had been training and working search dogs for years one of the first things I did was take the missing animal response technician certification course. To learn as much as I could about lost pets their behaviors and the techniques used to locate and recover them. Since then I have helped to teach at workshops for the missing pet partnership. I also networked as much as possible with other resources in the lost pet community.
There are people who have blessed themselves as experts, there are people who have hired sports tracking trainers and been blessed by their instructors as pet detection teams. There are organizations that promote themselves as non-profit yet they charge for their services. (For the record non profit human SAR teams charge nothing for their services.)
Most pets are recovered because of the efforts of their owner to follow through and recover their pet.
I will be the first to tell you that my dogs and I are not perfect if you hire us you are hiring us for the effort not for success. Yet my dogs are trained and certified to K9 standards through various organizations the same ones that certify lost human SAR dogs, and police dogs. Several of my dogs have been recognized for their contributions to the community we have multiple Governors awards, we have a track record that is available to anyone to view on the www.ljtpettracking.com website. We do not solicit testimonials from clients. We freely share our knowledge through TV, print media, and demos. The only testimonial that counts is when a client calls to tell me their pet is safely home and if we can help with a phone call instead of a house call we are thrilled!
This is the only business where we sincerely hope you never need our services!
